Wireless moving-target technology

Shooting Trainer manual.

Installation, connection, and operating instructions for the Kinetic Range Systems wireless moving-target controller.

Movement without control cables.

The KRS Shooting Trainer creates its own Wi-Fi network and hosts its control page directly on the device. No internet connection, mobile application, or router is required.

  • Finger-controlled target movement up, left, and right
  • Spring-return interface that returns the target home when released
  • Random automatic movement with adjustable timing and sequence length
  • Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert presets
  • Editable slider ranges and saved settings
  • Reversible left/right control for alternate mounting orientation
  • Unique Wi-Fi name for every controller

Prepare the system.

  1. Inspect the equipment. Confirm that the target, arms, fasteners, wiring, and protective components are secure and undamaged.
  2. Position the trainer. Install it only in an approved target area with a suitable backstop. Keep the electronics and mechanism protected from direct fire.
  3. Check movement clearance. The target must be able to travel through its complete range without striking an obstruction.
  4. Apply power. Keep hands clear. The target remains at its 90°/90° home position for five seconds and then begins automatic movement using the last saved settings.
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi. Use the instructions in the next section to take control or override the startup routine.
Moving mechanism hazard. Disconnect power before adjusting the target, servo arms, linkage, wiring, or mounting hardware.

Open target control.

  1. Open Wi-Fi settings on a phone, tablet, or computer.
  2. Select the network beginning with KRS Trainer-. The final eight hexadecimal characters identify that individual unit—for example, KRS Trainer-A1B2C3D4.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password target123.
  4. If the control page does not open automatically, open a browser and enter http://KRS.go.

Your device may report that this Wi-Fi network has no internet access. This is normal: the connection is a direct link to the trainer.

Move it by hand.

  1. Touch and hold the red target silhouette. Pressing without dragging does not move the physical target.
  2. Drag the silhouette up, left, or right. The physical target follows its position.
  3. The silhouette tilts toward the direction of travel, up to 30 degrees, and remains inside the movement window.
  4. Release your finger to return the silhouette and physical target to the 90°/90° home position.

Beginning a manual drag stops automatic movement. The movement window represents the safe programmed travel envelope; the silhouette cannot be dragged outside it.

Remove the anticipation.

Automatic mode selects fully extended positions along the outer edge of the target's programmed movement area.

Control Function Available range
Rest dwell Time at the home position between groups. 1 second through the editable maximum
Out-position dwell Time at each random extended position. 0 seconds through the editable maximum
Positions before home Number of random positions visited before returning home. 1 through the editable maximum

Use Start random movement to begin and Stop random movement to stop at home. An out dwell of zero still allows approximately 400 milliseconds for servo travel so the target can move before the next command.

Editable maximums

The number box to the right of each slider sets that slider's maximum. Dwell maximums may be set from 1 to 60 seconds. The position-count maximum may be set from 1 to 50. Each slider advances in whole-number steps.

Saved settings

Selected slider values and their maximums are stored in nonvolatile memory whenever settings are applied. They remain available after power is removed and are used by the next startup routine.

Choose a starting pace.

Beginner

3s rest
3s out
1 position

Intermediate

2s rest
1s out
3 positions

Expert

1s rest
0s out
5 positions

Selecting a preset applies and saves its values immediately. If automatic movement is running, the routine restarts using the selected preset.

Troubleshooting.

Issue Recommended action
Wi-Fi network is not visible Confirm power, wait at least ten seconds, move closer, then refresh the phone's Wi-Fi list.
Phone says “No Internet” This is expected. Remain connected to the KRS Trainer network and open http://KRS.go.
Control page does not open Disable mobile-data switching or “smart Wi-Fi” temporarily. Enter http://KRS.go exactly, or use http://192.168.4.1.
Target moves in the wrong horizontal direction Use the Flip left/right button.
Target does not respond Stop firing, disconnect power, and inspect power, servo connections, linkage, and obstructions before testing again.
Target movement is irregular Disconnect power and check for loose hardware, binding linkage, insufficient servo power, damage, or an obstructed travel path.

Keep every session controlled.

  • Use only where shooting is lawful and with an appropriate backstop and range-safety plan.
  • Never rely on the trainer, control page, or wireless connection as a safety device.
  • Keep people away from the target area while the firing line is active.
  • Disconnect power before approaching, servicing, clearing, or repositioning the mechanism.
  • Protect servos, electronics, batteries, and structural components from projectile impact.
  • Do not operate with damaged wiring, loose linkage, unusual noise, binding, or excessive heat.
  • Inspect the system before and after each use. Replace damaged parts before returning it to service.
